Twitter Guide

Twitter Guide – Everything about Twitter
(http://www.amitbhawani.com/blog/twitter-guide/)
What is Twitter
Twitter is a Real-Time short messaging service which helps you to connect with your friends and followers no matter where you are and how you want to get connected. Its a 140 characters limit messaging service where you can post messages in your Twitter account and its posted on your public account which is also sent your followers as updates.
Register for Free Twitter Account
You can register for a Twitter account offcourse for free of charges with your Full Name, Username , Password & Email Address. Once you enter this information you are a twitter user and have access to all the services which others do. You dont need to confirm anything in your address, and directly start using the twitter account.
What are Tweets
The simple and short messages you send on Twitter are called as Tweets, which are sent to your followers and shown on your Twitter Profile Page. If you dont have any friends or contacts with your Twitter Account then these Tweets are worth nothing because there is no one who is going to read them. On the Twitter Homepage , once you login to your account you will find all the Tweets posted by you and your contacts the way blog posts are listed with the latest & fresh ones on the top and older ones moving down.

How to Twitter
Adding tweets is really simple, you just have to login to your Twitter account and then visit the Home section at http://twitter.com/home. Here you will find a box where you can enter the Tweets and click on ‘Update’ which posts the Tweet on all your followers Homepage. Make sure the message you try to send is less than 140 characters because anything about that is not accepted.
Who are Followers & What is Following
At Twitter its really easy to find someone and start following them. Following means that you are becoming a follower of someone, after which what all he tweets in his twitter account is updated on your homepage. Lets say you are following you friends, then whenever he sends a message on Twitter, all the followers like you get the same message.
How to Follow Someone
In order to follow someone in Twitter you need to visit the profile page of your friends and then hit the ‘Follow’ button which is available just below their Profile Photo. Once this is done you are a Follower of that specified Twitter member and you will be able to see all their messages in your Twitter Homepage. You can Following anyone except those who have not Protected their updates and kept a private profile. There is no rule that the person whom you have followed should Follow you back but if he follows back you can send him private messages which are normally notified to him via email.
How do i UnFollow Someone
The very same way you follow someone in Twitter, you need to click on the ‘Following’ option which is available just below their Profile Photo. You will be asked to confirm if you want to Remove the account from your ‘Following’ members list, which once clicked you are done with the Unfollowing process and you wont see any of their updates on your Twitter Homepage. The person whom you have UnFollowed can still continue Following you because there is no link between these actions and he can continue to read all your updates on his homepage.
How to reply other Twitter Members
When you follow other users, you keep getting their messages on your Homepage and in case you want to reply to any of these, you just need to hit on the ‘reply to following username’ link located on the right of the message. Once you hit that button you will get the same Tweet submission box but with the username of the member whom you are sending a message prefixed.

Finding something on Twitter
If you looking for something on Twitter then Twitter Search would be the best option because it shows you with Real-Time Search Results for the keywords you type in the Search Box. The search engine is really cool because it shows all the tweets with the searched keyword and the very same page would notify you if there are any latest tweets with the searched keyword, and in order to view it you need to refresh the page.

Search People & Friends on Twitter
If you are looking for following your friends who you think are a member of Twitter, then you can use the ‘Find People‘ option which is located on the top right of your profile page once you are logged in. You have a total of 4 options for searching someone or adding people whom you can follow which are :
Find on Twitter – By Entering the Username, First Name or Last Name
Find on other networks – You can login to Gmail, Yahoo, AOL, Hotmail & MSN and try to find how many of your contacts are members of Twitter whom you can directly follow.
Invite by email – Know someone close who is not a member of Twitter, Invite them through the Email Invitation.
Suggested Users – Start Following Hundreds of Top Twitter Users which are Suggested by Twitter, though this option would be useless because probably none of these will Follow back and there is no point in following someone who is not in your business or who is not of your type.
What are Twitter Device Notifications
One of the best InBuilt Feature of Twitter is that you can get all the Tweets and Updates directly on your Mobile Phone, which means that you are not limited to Desktop Computer for using Twitter Services. You have the option of Devices under Settings Tab where you can add your Mobile Phone number and get all the Updates for Free of cost. You can even setup Sleep settings where you dont get any Tweets on your mobile phone during the Hours you Specify.
Twitter with SMS
Based on the mobile phone devices services you can also Tweet back from your mobile phone through SMS. This can be useful when you want to post something on Twitter and you are away from your computer. You dont get charged any amount when you recieve all the SMS updates but when you send back you may get charged based on your Telecom Provider or carrier’s plan you are subscribed to at normal Text Message rates.
Twitter Commands for Mobile Phone SMS
When you are using Twitter through SMS, then you can use the following short codes for multiple tasks.
@username + message > Direct reply someone with your message.
WHOIS username > shows you the profile information for public Twitter users.
STATS > Sends you your followers count.
ON: turns ALL phone notifications on.
OFF: turns ALL phone notifications off.
FOLLOW username : Follow someone through mobile phone
LEAVE username: UnFollow someone through mobile phone
Twitter Account Suspended Reasons
Your Twitter account can get suspended for many reasons and you can contact the Twitter Support team if you feel that the suspension was in error. Here are few major reasons why your twitter account can be suspended.
* unauthorized scripting of the site
* unauthorized serial account creation
* unauthorized mass account creation
* user name squatting
* account contains links pointing to phishing sites, malware, or other harmful material
* an account is identified as belonging to a group of spam accounts
* updates consist of duplicate or repeating links and/or text
* updates consist mainly of links and not personal updates
If the Twitter team can find that the complaint you have sent back to restore your account at suspended@twitter.com is legit there are chances that your account can be totally restored.

Achieving the Ultimate Twitter
Experience – How to Get Rich on
Twitter
Most people who register on social networking sites such as Twitter make complete
fools of themselves. In other words, they waste their time. The sight of people
wasting their time and opportunities at Twitter is as sad as the sight of a new driver
wrecking his/her brand new car or a violinist who plays badly because he/she cannot
distinguish between sharps and flats. Watching some people using Twitter in the
wrong way is a painful experience.
The primary purpose of a social networking site is to establish new connections and
build new relationships. However, people who lack the required social skills create a
false impression of themselves on Twitter. And much to their sorrow, they will never
be able to undo the damage.
The purpose of this report is to teach you make the best use of Twitter right from the
moment you register. What you get out of Twitter depends entirely on how you use it.
With the help of this report, you will be able not only to have a rich Twitter
experience, but also to earn money from your tweets or Twitter messages.
Introducing Twitter
According to Wikipedia, “Twitter is a social networking and micro-blogging service
that allows its users to send and read other users’ updates (known as tweets), which
are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length.”
A popular Twitter user says that you can use this online service to send brief
messages to your Twitter friends or “followers” as they are called on Twitter. You can
also choose the Twitter users you would like to follow and read all their tweets from
one page.

Who uses Twitter?
Anybody can use Twitter! All you need is a valid Twitter account. Once you register
on Twitter, you will discover that it is not only interesting, but also immensely
practical and useful. Friends and communities use Twitter to send messages to one
another and keep in touch. Twitter is just as popular among small groups of school
friends, family members, and colleagues as it is among large communities. Do you
want all your buddies to know that you have arranged a pub meeting this evening?
Just tweet on Twitter! In fact, the concept of Twitter is similar to that of Dodge Ball
although using Twitter is absurdly simpler.
Getting Started On Twitter
When you first register on Twitter and enter the exciting world of Twitter, you will
naturally feel overwhelmed by the endless threads of tiny marketing campaigns and
dialogues. But, as the days pass, you will not only enjoy Twitter, but also get
addicted to it.
Register on Twitter
Twitter is absolutely free to join. You simply have to visit Twitter.com and open an
account. If you are serious about your Twitter account, you had better use your real
name and upload a genuine photograph of yourself. This will lend an atmosphere of
authenticity to your profile page and followers will tend to trust you more. Moreover,
your friends will find it difficult to identify you if you use a nickname and this defeats
the very purpose of joining Twitter.
7

Create an Interesting Bio
If you want a large list of followers, you must create an interesting and eye-catching
bio. Be honest when you create a bio; state exciting, but true facts about yourself.
Here is a good example to help you out: “I am an avid hiker who is passionate about
the outdoor world. Simultaneously, I am an Internet marketer, an affiliate marketer,
and a teacher who is fond of social media.”
Beginning your bio with the words “I am…” is a great idea. These magic words never
fail to capture the attention of the person who is viewing your profile page and
reading your bio.
Update Your Profile
8
© SuccessCurrency.com www.SuccessCurrency.com
Other Twitter users usually have a look at your profile before deciding to become
your followers. So, pay special attention to your Twitter profile page.
You must update your profile page regularly; otherwise, other Twitter users might
feel that you are a spammer.
Your profile page is the right place to communicate your likes, interests, tastes, and
preferences to other Twitter users. People will decide to follow you on the basis of
the information you choose to share about yourself.
Don’t forget to add the address of your blog or website to your profile page.
Remember that the http:// is very important.
Spread the News
9
© SuccessCurrency.com www.SuccessCurrency.com
As soon as you have created your Twitter account, inform your friends about it. The
best way to do this is to send them your Twitter page address.
As soon as you register on Twitter, you will get a personal page. The address of your
personal page is http://twitter.com/username. For example, if your username is
carcrasher, your Twitter page address will be http://twitter.co./carcrasher.
You can check out my Twitter page at http://twitter.com/amitjalan1
Get Connected to Your Mobile and IM
If you want to get the best out of Twitter, you must connect your Twitter profile to
your IM and your mobile phone. Since all tweets are only 140 characters long, they
can easily be dispatched as short text messages. Want to know more about
connecting Twitter to your mobile phone? Check out Pockettweets, the ultimate for
Twitter mobiles.

Forming Twitter Goals
You have now created a brand new Twitter profile page and invited your friends to
check it out. Before tweeting on Twitter and working on your list of followers, you
must ponder over your Twitter goals. Ask yourself what it is you would like to achieve
on Twitter.
Why People Join Twitter
People join Twitter for a variety of reasons. You will be surprised to know the
reasons for which people tweet on Twitter. The list of Twitter goals can be endless,
and each Twitter user will have his/her own reasons for joining Twitter.
Here is a list of possible goals:
• Create a market for your products.
• Get recognized as an expert in a particular niche.
• Stay in touch with old friends.
• Drive a steady stream of targeted traffic to your squeeze pages.
• Send more people to read your blog posts.
• Meet your significant other.
• Make friends who share your interests for a particular hobby or activity.
• Share project details with your colleagues.
• Improve your social life.
What are your goals? Think over it a bit and create a list of reasons you might have
for joining Twitter. After making your list of goals, identify a primary goal and a
secondary goal.
11

Why You Need Goals
Goals help you make the optimum use of Twitter. Once you know why you are
joining Twitter, you will be able to known exactly how to use it.
Goals help you determine the subject matter of your tweets, the type of people to
follow or accept as followers, the type of keywords to keep track of, how to promote
yourself and your products, how to converse with others, the Twitter tools that will
best serve your purpose, and how often you must tweet.
Maintain the Spirit of Fun
Don’t get too serious about setting Twitter goals! You don’t have to write down your
goals. Twitter does not set strict rules for its users. Twitter is just an online tool for
fun and frolic; accordingly, it permits you to express yourself in myriad ways.
However, if you want Twitter to serve a particular purpose for you, you ought to be
clear about it. In other words, if you want to achieve a particular goal on Twitter, you
must know exactly what you want and how to set about achieving it.
Simultaneously, you don’t have to crack your skull over it. When I set my goals for
using Twitter, I was able to transform Twitter into a tool not only to have fun, but also
to build my business.

Finding Friends on Twitter
Twitter allows you to make find friends in any number of ways. First, you can inform
your friends, family members, and colleagues that you are on Twitter and request
them to join you there. You can also add your Twitter page link to your email
signature, enabling the recipients of your emails to find and join you on Twitter.
Alternatively, you can search through the endless list of Twitter users to find people
who share your interests and become friends with them. Twitter also presents tools
that will help you find and follow other Twitter users.
Twellow and JustTweetIt
Twellow and JustTweetIt are sites that can introduce you to other Twitter users who
share your interests and goals. Look up their profiles and study the ways in which
they use Twitter. Before you decide to follow them, study their blogs and read their
bios. Follow them only if they share similar interests with you. You will be wasting
your time if you follow people who are interested in a niche that has nothing to do
with you.
Twitter Search
13
© SuccessCurrency.com www.SuccessCurrency.com
Twitter Search is another great way to find like-minded people. Twitter Search is
Twitter’s special search engine that is not only easy to use, but also gives great
results. Use it to find profiles that might interest you. Once you decide to follow
another Twitter user, you will gain access to the network of Twitter users they are
following. You will find that it is humanly impossible to read every tweet that is posted
on Twitter. But you can glance through them and browse various profiles to find
something that interests you. Check the tweets every now and then for a message
that might be related to your niche or interests.
Don’t be in a hurry to build your network. Following other Twitter users means
opening yourself up to the rest of the Twitter community. When you follow other
Twitter users, you make it easy for them to find you. Therefore, follow only those who
might be of some use to you.
14

Joining Communities on Twitter
Join communities on Twitter only if it helps you achieve your Twitter goals. Take your
time to join a community. You don’t need to join a community just because you are
following the people in it and reading their tweets. Observe the members of the
community for as long as you like and join them only when you are ready to.
Remember that the Twitter community you wish to join or create should help you
achieve your Twitter goals. I wanted to start a community for fun and interaction and
for keep abreast of all the recent trends in social media.
Want to find some excellent communities? Visit twitter.pbwiki.com
Some Interesting Twitter Communities
Twitterpated: This community was established by Vincent Wright, an A+ networker
for networkers who wanted to talk about networking
Tweeple: Dedicated to Twitter, this LinkedIn group has around 1,600 members.
Birdhouse: Tweetcrunch, a weblog on microblogging and Twitter news, runs this
new Ning community, which has only 15 members. This community is for Twitter
users and developers who are passionate about microblogging to share new
applications, suggestions, and ideas, and to interact with other Twitter users.

3 Secrets to Getting More Followers on
Twitter
Here are a couple of open secrets to getting more Twitter users to follow you. Follow
these simple tips if you want a large list of followers in no time.
1. Spread Word about Twitter
If you want more people to find you on Twitter, you must talk about Twitter outside
Twitter. The only way to get more people to follow you on Twitter is to tell more and
more people that you are on Twitter. How do you do this?
You can spread the news that you are on Twitter by word of mouth. Alternatively,
you can spread the news by attaching your Twitter address to your email signature,
your business cards, your online profiles, and so on. Adding a Twitter RSS feed to
your blog or webpage also helps.
2. Tweet a Lot
Tweet as much as possible! Make your presence felt! Ask questions and answer
them. Participate in conversations about topics that you find interesting. Thank other
Twitter users when they share something that is useful to you. Respond to witty
tweets made by other Twitter users. Say hello to new Twitter users.
3. Be Friendly
Initially, you might feel that you are a stranger on Twitter, but you are not one. Stop
feeling and acting like a stranger, and greet other Twitter users as if you knew them
all your life. Greet them in the mornings, evenings, afternoons, and on the
weekends.
16
© SuccessCurrency.com www.SuccessCurrency.com
Even if you have joined Twitter to improve your business, refrain from being too
businesslike. Give a bit of yourself in your tweets; show interest in the lives and
interests of other Twitter users.
Twitter is a place for fun; so have plenty of fun. This online service is synonymous
with dialogue, social currency, information, and chat. It has a strong role to play in
the significant business conversation that affects everybody’s life. No wonder Twitter
is swiftly becoming more and more popular.
Weeding Your Follower List
New Twitter users are allowed to follow only 2,000 people. The idea is to get 2,000
people to follow them. This is Twitter’s way of preventing spammers from making
their unwanted presence felt on Twitter. When you first register on Twitter, you will
find plenty of followers. You will have exhausted your limits within a week. You
cannot get more followers because you have already exhausted your limits by
following 2000 Twitter users. In such a case, what can you do?
Study your following and follower lists carefully, and you will discover that not all the
people you are following are following you back. In such a case, you have two
options—remove the person from your following list or respond to the person’s
tweets with the hope that the person would notice you and start following you.
You will find that weeding your follower list manually is a tedious process. Twitter has
some excellent tools that will help you do this job effectively.
Twitter Karma
This excellent Twitter app will allow you to identify the users you are following along
with the ones who are following you. You can easily make out which of the Twitter
17
© SuccessCurrency.com www.SuccessCurrency.com
users you are following are not following you. The home page of Twitter Karma
enables you to unfollow all those who are not following you with one click of the
mouse. Visit http://dossy.org/twitter/karma/
This app, however, is too slow and need two full minutes to process your Twitter
details and to give you the information you require. If you want something faster, you
could check out applications such as TwitIn.com, www.mytweeple.com, or
Socialtoo.com.
Top Secret to Getting More Followers
Here is what top Twitter users do to get a large list of followers.
First, follow your limited number of 2,000 people. Now, wait for about a week to see
if they follow you back. Of these 2,000, at least 200 should follow you back. After
that, it is time to weed your following list using the above-mentioned applications.
Now, you might want to retain some people who are not following you back simply
because their tweets are of great value to you. For example, Frank Kern follows only
a handful of Twitter users, but has a large list of 13,816 Twitter users following him.
This is because Frank Kern is a top-grade Internet marketer who has something of
great value to give to his followers. They don’t mind him not following them in return.
When you weed your following list of unresponsive Twitter users, you will have
cleared a lot of Twitter space. Now is the time to follow some more people who share
the same interests as you. Retain them if they follow you back or have something of
value to offer. Weed them off your list if they are of no use to you. This simple
method of following and weeding will help you get a list of 500 or more followers in
just 2 weeks.
Continue the process of weeding and following till you have all the followers that you
desire.

Learning to Tweet
So, what is a tweet? If you are on Twitter, you ought to tweet.
A "tweet" is a Twitter message that can be sent from your mobile phone, the web
page, and the Instant Messenger (IM). As soon as you post a tweet, it becomes
visible on the Twitter pages and mobile phones of your followers.
A Bit of Twitiquette
Twitter gives you ample freedom to express yourself as you wish. However, you will
have a better Twitter experience if you follow certain unwritten and written Twitter
rules. I would like to call this “Twitiquette.”
Newcomers, of course, are forgiven if they make a social gaffe or two every now and
then. After all, they are feeling their way around the site and don't really know many
things about Twitter and tweeting. When I first registered at Twitter, I found myself
guilty of making some such gaffes myself; and Twitter users were gracious enough
to forgive me for them.
What Do Twitter Users Tweet About?
What should you tweet about? Twitter doesn't have strict rules of what you should
say or shouldn’t. Most tweets are parts of long conversation threads or
announcements. To enjoy the ultimate Twitter experience, you must learn to strike a
balance between the two.
Here is a list of things you can tweet about:
• Private reflections and thoughts about your products, which will lead to
development of trust and informative conversational threads
20
© SuccessCurrency.com www.SuccessCurrency.com
• Event announcements, which might give you a chance to meet your followers in
person
• Contests, such as trivia questions, with a prize attached, which arouse plenty of
interest in your tweets
• Responses to other tweets, which express your interest in what others have to
say.
• Direct responses, which don't appear on the public timeline, but enhance the
bond of trust, friendship, and understanding between two Twitter users
• Recent Blog Posts: Ideally, you should make one such tweet per day. This
helps you promote your own blog. At the same time, remember to promote
interesting, informative, and entertaining posts from other Twitter users.
• Important announcements
• Overheard (OH): These are interesting snippets of conversation that you usually
overhear at the workplace or at home. These tweets are meant to enlarge the
spirit of fun in the Twitter atmosphere.
• Fun Internet Games (Rickrolls): When you post fun stuff like this, you prove
that you are fun to hang around with. Other Twitter users will try to mimic you and
post similar tweets. Enrich your Twitter experience by splashing Internet memes
around the Twitter atmosphere.
• Quotes and Lyrics: Lyrics, especially funny and thought-provoking ones, bring a
smile to the faces of the readers. Some of them might even give rise to questions
that might, in turn, give rise to interesting threads of conversation. Such Twitter
activity is greatly appreciated on Twitter.
21
© SuccessCurrency.com www.SuccessCurrency.com
• Links to video clipping, photographs, podcasts, interviews, articles, blogs,
websites, and so on, which give other Twitter users a better picture of what you
are
• Shout out and make Twitter users feel great
Tweets are private; only your followers can read and respond to them. If you want to
make your tweets public, you can do so by providing your Twitter identity. Interested
parties can even subscribe to your tweets.
You will find a wide range of tweets on Twitter. Some of them make Twitter users
erupt in laughter; some of them lead to a lot of reflection; and some lead to exciting
and long threads of conversation.
Twitter is a site for fun and interaction. The purpose of tweeting is to strike up
conversations, network, and build relationships. So, share whatever you have and
enjoy tweeting!
6 Exciting Ways to Find Time to Tweet
How do busy people find the time to tweet? Needless to say, tweeting requires
plenty of attention. Twitter can take up large chunks of your precious time.
If you study the standard web application of Twitter, you will notice that the latest 20
tweets are displayed. The older ones are lost to you unless you take the take to
search for them. This means that you must be alert enough to catch the tweets and
respond to them as they arrive. How do you find the time for this?
This is what smart Twitter users do to keep abreast with the latest tweets, and you
can follow the same methods too.
1. Install a Twitter Client
22
© SuccessCurrency.com www.SuccessCurrency.com
If you are using Mac, you can use a Growl, an online notifying app, with your Twitter
client. If you have Windows, you can try clients such as Snitter, TweetDeck,
twhirl.org, and Twitterific.
2. Automate Twitter
Twitter can be automated with cool apps such as Tweetlater, which permits you to
send welcome tweets to new users, follow people, update your profile, schedule
tweets, and so on.
3. Be Alert
You must know what other followers are saying about you and your tweets. In such a
case, your responses are of utmost importance. A search engine called Tweetscan
can help you keep track of keywords and watch the tweets of other Twitter users.
The results can even be plugged into RSS feeds. If you have a blog or a website,
installing a Twitter widget is of great help.
4. Twitter and Facebook
You can connect your Twitter and your Facebook profile pages. When you do this,
you can update your profile is one place so that it appears on several places. You
can check out the details on how to do this at: http://explore.twitter.com
5. Keep Abreast of Twitter Developments
Maintain a list of the latest developments on Twitter. Everyday Twitter updates itself
and adds new tools, of which some are very useful to busy Twitter users.
6. Get Tweet Alerts

Arrange your Twitter settings so that Twitter sends you an alert every time someone
tweets. Initially, you will find this fun. But as the number of your followers shoots up,
you will find that your inbox is loaded to bursting point with tweet alerts.
When you no longer wish to receive tweet alerts via email, check the “direct
message” option on Twitter. Your followers’ tweets will be sent to your mobile phone
and Instant Messenger, and you will no longer receive email alerts.

Learning Tweet Terms
When you first step into Twitter space, you will wonder what everybody is tweeting
about. New users can be totally confused with Twitter terms; but you will soon get
the hang of it. Most Twitter terms begin with the letters 'tw.' For example, "tweet"
means a twitter message. tweetup means a Twitter meetup. Before you tweet to
other Twitter users, you ought to know the following basic Twitter terms in order to
make yourself understood.
• Direct Message: A direct message is a personal message sent to a particular
Twitter user. It does not appear on the public timeline.
• @twittername: ‘@’ followed by username of a particular Twitter user means that
it is a response to that Twitter user’s tweet. It appears on the public timeline—one
the home page of that Twitter user.
• Leave twittername: This indicates a desire on the part of a Twitter user to stop
following someone.
• On: This command turns on phone, IM, and mobile phone notifications.
• Off: This command is to turn off notification.
24
© SuccessCurrency.com www.SuccessCurrency.com
• RT or Retweet: You are retweeting if you are reposting something interesting
posted by a Twitter user.
• PRT: This means “please retweet” or “partial retweet.”
• OH: Overheard
• FTL: For the loss
• BTW: By the way
• FTW: For the win
• YMMV: Your mileage may vary
• IMHO: In my honest opinion
• LMK: Let me know
• b/c: Because
• JV: Joint Venture
• Hashtags: Many Tweeters use hashtags (a hash preceding a tag,#) in order to
make it easier for readers to follow that particular tag or tract it. Use the tag on
Twitter Search, and you will find other Twitter users tweeting on the same
subject—posting events, tips, conference, and so on about the same subject. If
you want to track many hashtags, visit Twemes.
WeFollow, Twellow, and Justtweetit are some Twitter directories that can also give
you plenty of information on hashtags and tag tracking. While tracking other
hashtags, it pays to add your own to the directory, especially if you specialize in a
particular niche.

You might be wondering why Twitter has a different language. The reason for this is
simple. Like all Web 2.0 sites, the prosperity of Twitter depends entirely on the

quality of the material posted by its users. Twitter is of value today because of the
valuable tweets of its users. Twitter will flourish only if the Twitter community
flourishes. And, for any community to flourish there must be a basic set of rules and
regulations pertaining to language. The guidelines are not to curb the freedom of the
users, but only to enable the smooth functioning of Twitter. As you continue using
Twitter, you will observe that using Twitter language will actually enrich your Twitter
experience.

Everything You Need to Know about
Retweeting
A retweet usually begins with the words “retweet.” You are retweeting when you are
reposting something of value and interest posted by another Twitter user.
Retweeting is the means by which you point out something interesting to your own
followers. Moreover, a retweet enables his/her followers to visit the original posters
profile and follow him/her if they find him/her interesting.
How do you retweet? I will now tell you how to retweet in 3 simple steps.
3 Simple Steps to Successful Retweeting
1. Use a common label such as “retweet,” “retweeting,” or “reading” when you
retweet posts.
2. When you retweet, you must give credit to the original poster. In order to do so,
type @ just before the original poster’s twittername.
3. Tweet the post along with your reason for retweeting this post.
Here is an example to help you.
Retweet: @originalposter 4 Top Ways to Increase Traffic http://tis.gf/34f - really
useful
Retweeting is that simple.
Retweeting Rules
27
© SuccessCurrency.com www.SuccessCurrency.com
Although retweeting is that simple, you cannot just retweet anything and everything
you wish. The game of retweeting has its own rules and regulations.
• Never retweet in order to attract attention.
• Never retweet because you want the original posters to retweet your tweets.
• Only retweet posts that might be of real value to your followers.
A person who does nothing but retweet annoys his/her followers. The purpose of
retweeting is to provide valuable content and useful links to your followers. The
original posters might return the favor; again, they might not! Everything depends on
whether your tweets are of use to them. So, never retweet anyone just because you
want to be retweeted in return. Such an attitude will never take you far on Twitter.
Retweet only posts that you genuinely feel will interest your followers.
3 Benefits of Retweeting
Why retweet? Smart Twitter users would never retweet unless it is of some use to
them. Retweeting has 3 great benefits.
1. Retweeting Gives Something Valuable to Followers
Twitter users have different reasons for following you. One of those reasons could be
that your tweets are of great value to them. When you retweet informative and
interesting posts, you are automatically providing something valuable to your
followers, who obviously share your tastes and preferences. When you give
something valuable to your followers, they are going to remain loyal to you. You
might also attract more followers.
On Twitter, there are 2 great ways to provide something of value to followers.
• Create a blog post and tweet a link to it.
• Retweet links to valuable content posted by other Twitter users.
28
© SuccessCurrency.com www.SuccessCurrency.com
2. Retweeting Benefits Personal Brands
Retweeting is a very effective method of promoting personal brands and winning
followers’ loyalty. If you retweet valuable posts, your followers will trust you more
than ever. They will then click the links to your products simply because they trust
you to provide something of value to them.
3. Retweeting Creates a Bond with Original Posters
If you retweet others’ posts, they will respond by retweeting your posts. Retweeting
is actually an act of kindness, and bloggers love repaying such acts of kindness.
However, refrain from retweeting simply because you want the favor to be returned.
The primary purpose of retweeting is to share valuable content with your followers.
Besides, Twitter users don’t just retweet posts. Someone will retweet your link only if
you provide top-quality content that is of great use to them.
Does retweeting drive your followers away? Many people are worried that it would.
Actually, no such thing will happen. Nobody will unfollow you simply because you
retweet someone else’s posts. You might get blocked if you show yourself to be a
spammer. However, nobody will stop following your tweets or visiting your blog just
because you point out some good content to them. You must remember that readers
are kind-hearted and intelligent people.
Retweeting enhances your Twitter experience. At the same time, ineffective
retweeting can wreck your traffic and brand reputation. If you retweet in the proper
manner, you will succeed in driving more traffic to your websites/blogs and getting
connected with other content creators and bloggers in your niche.

Subscribing to Twitter RSS Feed
RSS is short for "Really Simple Syndication." This is a simple online mechanism that
permits you to read all your favorite web content on one page. For example, consider
a blog that you like. You would like to visit it everyday to see if the blogger has
updated it. You can simply subscribe to the RSS feed of that blog and read the blog
contents on your RSS feeder. Subscribing to RSS feeds enables you to find out
whether a blog or website has been updated or not without having to visit it. You can
read the contents of several blogs and websites from a common page.
Twitter’s RSS Feed
Twitter’s profile page, home page, replies page, and public timeline page have RSS
feeds. When you are viewing one of these pages, you might have noticed RSS
buttons in the page’s sidebar or browser. If you want to track the contents of the
page without having the sign in to Twitter every now and then, you can just subscribe
to their RSS feeds.
35
© SuccessCurrency.com www.SuccessCurrency.com
Twitterfeed
Twitter does not have any application enabling users to update their tweets through
an RSS feed. However, smart API users have designed an app called Twitterfeed.
This app automatically sends any update you make on your blog to Twitter. All you
have to do is enter your blog's feed url, input the number of times you tweet. Your
Twitter friends will be able to view these announcements. You can access
Twitterfeed at http://www.twitterfeed.com/
Twitter RSS Feed
Would you like to read the updates on Twitter without logging in? Then you want to
subscribe to Twitter's RSS feed. Check the sidebar of a public profile page on
Twitter. You will soon locate the RSS feed button just beneath the pictures of the
Twitter users you are following. Now, click on the button and subscribe to it and soon
you will be able to read the latest updates on a feed reader without having to log into
Twitter.
Your browser’s url field also has the RSS feed button. When you click on this icon,
you will be asked to subscribe to this feed. Click on the subscribe button, and you
will be able to read all the updates in your feed reader.
Public Twitter Pages
Public Twitter pages, for example a public profile page, can be accessed even by
people who do not have Twitter accounts. They simply have to subscribe to the
page’s RSS feed and read the updates on their feed reader. In order to respond,
however, they need to create a Twitter account.

8 Categories of Tweeps You Must Avoid
As you continue tweeting on Twitter, you will come across the following 8 varieties of
Tweeps. These categories tend to be very annoying and must be avoided at all
costs.
1. Narcissists
The narcissist is so preoccupied with him/herself that he/she actually believes that
the world is interested in every minute detail of their dull lives. They tweet incessantly
about what they are wearing, watching, listeing, eating, talking, and so on and so
forth. The information is of absolutely no use to anybody; it can get boring; and worst
of all, it clutters up your Twitter page. If you see tweets such as "Watching CNN,
eating ice-cream, and enjoying it," "Cleaned out my desk at last!" "Thinking about
roasting chicken for dinner," and so on and so forth, you are in the presence of a
narcissist. These tweeps simply cause their follower's inbox to explode.
If you want to tweet, make it something of value to your readers. Otherwise send
direct messages only to special friends who really care what you are planning to
cook for dinner that night. Narcissistic tweeting gives the Twitter user an unsavoury
reputation and drives many new users away from him/her. No Tweep on Twitter has
the energy, time, or the desire to read such Tweets or wade through such Tweets in
the hope of finding something of value.
2. Spammer
Ever found yourself hounded by companies? I was annoyed to find a real estate
company and a funeral home following me around on Twitter. Since I planned
neither to purchase a house nor die in the near future, their attention was
unflattering. Now, this does not mean that Twitter is not for business owners; it is one
of the best places to build your brand and enhance your business. But you must
follow the basic twittiquette and target the right people and not force your unwanted
37
© SuccessCurrency.com www.SuccessCurrency.com
company of everybody who tweets out there. Spamming is never appreciated on
Twitter, and if you catch anybody spamming on Twitter, just block them.
3. DigMe Dudes
These Tweeps have zillions of followers, but they follow none. For example, Timothy
Ferris, who has authored the book "4-hour Workweek," has thousands of followers
but hardly follows anyone in response. If he does, he might have to spend a major
chunk of his time just tweeting back to them. However, Timothy is an exceptional
case; somehow, he gets away with such behavior because he has loads of valuable
stuff to offer.
For the majority of us tweeps out there, following none, but aiming to be only
followed, defeats the very purpose of Twitter. We are on twitter to build relationships
and have conversations. And we can't do this if we do not follow anyone. Not
following anyone on Twitter is like talking our heads off about ourselves at a party,
but nodding off to sleep the minute the others try to speak about himself or herself.
4. Bottys
For some reason, these tweeps feel that they ought to repeat themselves in order to
get heard. You will spot them tweeting incessantly about their blog post, and they
don’t even change the way they word their tweets. The fact is that they get noticed
the first time they post about their blog post. They don't have to do it again and
again. On twitter, you don't have to repeat yourself. If other Tweeps find that you
have offered something valuable, they will retweet your post. If you keep tweeting
the same thing over and over again, you will really tick off the rest of the Tweeps out
there.
5. Dumb Linker
38
© SuccessCurrency.com www.SuccessCurrency.com
Certain Tweeps post links without posting adequate information about the link. You
will turn off other tweeters if you post tweets such as "Click on this link for some
great fun!" How am I sure I am going to have fun if I click that link? Before clicking on
a link, I need to know whether that link is going to be worth my time and attention.
While posting links, also post some good reasons to click that link. Otherwise, your
followers will simply check out the other tweets and ignore yours.
You must remember that people don't click any link. You first need to tell them
exactly what they can expect if they click it. Telling people that they will have a good
time if they click a link is the lamest tweet you can post because your idea of a good
time might just not turn out to be the other's idea of a good time.
6. Twittermatic
Ever greeted another Twitter user and received a long response that surprised you?
Well, you have just met a Twittermatic, who sends automatic responses to
everybody who greets them after getting to know them on twitter. Well, people just
don't like automated responses. They like to be acknowledged as human beings. So
don't make another Tweep feel as if he/she has just linked up with a machine who
sends automated messages every time he/she is trying to get friendly.
7. JabberJaws
As the name suggests, JabberJaws don't seem to have a life of their own since they
tweet incessantly. They always seem to be on Twitter, tweeting away and filling up
your inbox. People feel suffocated by such an attitude. We all like our space and we
like to have our share of the conversation. On Twitter, conversation hogs who tweet
all the time are simply not appreciated.
8. Twitter SmarmySales
39
© SuccessCurrency.com www.SuccessCurrency.com
Twitter is not a market place; it is a social networking site in which you can show that
you have a brand to market. But it is definitely not the place for hard selling and
aggressive marketing. The minute Tweeps realize that you are trying to hawk your
products, they will start avoiding you like the plague. On Twitter, you are expected to
be more interested in Tweeps and tweeting than in boosting your sales or driving
traffic to your websites.
If you aren't one of these, you are a successful Tweep...an accepted, well-respected
part of the Tweep community. You might even find yourself getting addicted to
Twitter.

How to Monetize Twitter
Now that you are an expert Tweep, it is time to make some money on Twitter. After
all, what is the sense in tweeting day in and day out if you cannot make a bit of
money out of it?
Ever considered how Google has become a roaring success in spite of giving away
so many applications such as email, web space, and so on absolutely free? The key
to Google success is advertising. Google has 2 advertising programs—Adsense for
publishers and Adwords for advertisers.
Adwords permits advetisers to purchase top keywords that are bound to get many
clicks. Adsense permits publishers to place these advertisements on their websites
and blogs. The advertiser pays the publisher whenever someone clicks on their
advertisement.
Ads – The Key To Riches
The same technique works on Twitter too. As a Twitter user, you are publishing tons
of information, which is tracked by a targeted bunch of followers. You can use your
twitter space for ads and earn money from them. Yes, it works simply because
Twitter is a phenomenal social networking site, which is used by prominent
marketers and businesses in order to promote and market their brands. Even
prominent organizations such as Digg and Google have their Twitter account, which
they use for this purpose.
You might ask, "But isn't this spamming? And won't I lose my followers if I bombard them
with ads?" The answer is both yes and no. You will lose your followers if you don't do it in
the proper manner. There is a way to advertise without losing your fans, and I am going to
share that secret with you.

3 Secrets to Successful Twitter
Advertising
Here are 3 secrets to advertising successfully on Twitter. You will definitely earn
money on Twitter if you follow these methods.
1. Advertise in Your Unique Twitter Style
You should advertise in such a manner that your followers should not guess that you
are advertising. And this is how you want to advertise!
We are all unique and we have our unique style of tweeting. No 2 tweets are similar;
their style and subject varies from Twitter user to Twitter user. For example, I am an
Internet marketer who is passionate about Google and its applications, the latest in
technology, and so on. On Twitter, I connect with people and talk about marketing,
new gadgets, and so on. I never speak about things I am not comfortable with. My
followers would smell a rat if I suddenly started posting tweets about dog food. They
might even accuse me of spamming them. However, if I post ads about Google
apps, my followers are going to feel that this is just another of my tweets. They won’t
even dream that I am making money advertising on Twitter.
The trick is to choose subjects that suit my style of tweeting. I must select ads on
subjects that I am comfortable with, understand, and usually talk about. I would tweet
ads on affiliate marketing, Google, blogging, and online money making. This way, I
would look as if I am tweeting as usual even when I am placing an advertisement.
42

2. Find Advertisers
Are you getting excited about advertising on Twitter? You might have heard of pay
per click. This system enables advertisers to pay publishers as per the number of
clicks their ad gets from the people who visit the website on which the publisher has
placed that advertisement.
You can successfully sell ads on Twitter, provided you have a large list of followers
who will definitely click your links and retweet your tweets. Before you try selling ads
on Twitter, set up links that can be tracked and send detailed reports to advertisers.
These reports must contain details of the clicks your links received. You can charge
advertisers as per the number of times the ads are clicked upon or as per the
number of people of visited the advertisers’ websites through the links placed on
your Twitter pages. This is a practical idea that can be implemented immediately.
Advertisers are happier to pay per click instead of per tweet.
Excellent link tracking programs are available on the Internet and you can easily find
them. The easier way out, of course, is to find an enterprise that has already found
the advertisers for you. This saves you the time and energy used in finding
advertisers.
3. Find someone who has found the advertisers
Be-A-Magpie.com
Advertisers conglomerate at this site and decide whether they would like to pay per
view, per click, or per sale. Sign up at this site, supply your twitter details, and
choose the ads you would like to tweet. The company will post these ads under your
twittername.
43
© SuccessCurrency.com www.SuccessCurrency.com
Stay away from ads that look as if the advertiser is desperate to boost his/her sales.
Remember that Twitter is not the place for aggressive campaigning and hard selling.
You could pick a line that strongly resembles one of your tweets. For example, I
would pick an ad that says, “I played around with this new insert picture feature on
Gmail and found it to be awesome. You can check it out here.” This hardly sounds
like an ad; it looks like me tweeting. None of my followers will suspect that I am
posting an ad
Be-A-Magpie permits you to choose the time and frequency of ad posting. The site
offers many other cool features too, which you can check out once you are there.
Twittad.com
Twittad, a social media affinity network, connects Tweeps and advertisers. While
Tweeps can use it to make money out of their Twitter profile pages, advertisers can
use it to reach every nook and corner of Twitter, third-party apps, and mobile
phones.
How does Twittad work? Tweeps and advertisers meet on Twittad so that the
Tweeps can permit advertisers post ads on their profile pages. The payment
depends on how long the ad stays on the profile background.
Tweeps can use Twittad to monetize their profile pages in 2 ways:
44
© SuccessCurrency.com www.SuccessCurrency.com
• They can offer their profile pages for sale on Twittad. This method gives Tweeps
the freedom to set their own rate. As soon as the Tweep approves of the
advertisement, it appears on the background of the profile page.
• Advertisers announce their requirement for a Twitter profile page and agree to
pay a certain amount. Tweeps can apply for the same. If the advertiser approves
of the Tweep’s profile page, the ad appears on it and the Tweep earns money.
You start earning as soon as you register your Twitter profile page on Twittad and
register for one of the above-mentioned methods or both. Twittad logs into your
profile page and places the ad on your profile background. Twittad’s sophisticated
technology keeps track of how well the ad is doing on your profile page background.
If the ad captures your followers’ attention, you will get paid. The payout is $30.
You might find it a bit difficult to find ads that suit your unique style of tweeting. Still, if
you search hard, you will find an ad or two that will fit the background of your profile
perfectly. As far as possible, stay away from long-duration ads and stick to shortduration
ads.
You must, however, retain the ad for a particular period of time. If you remove it
before the expiry date, the advertiser will get alerted and give you a black mark. You
don’t want this to happen as it might affect your chances of getting ads in the future.
HootSuite.com
45
© SuccessCurrency.com www.SuccessCurrency.com
HootSuite is a Twitter user’s one-stop shop and serves 2 important functions. First, it
shrinks the links you post in your tweets. Second, it helps you earn some extra
Google Adsense cash.
When HootSuite shrinks links, it also creates a new webpage that contains a
HootSuite banner in addition to the original page whose link it has shrunk. This
banner contains your Twitter details, a HootSuite ad, and a small space for a Google
ad of your choice. Now, any page you recommend to your followers has your Google
ad on it. If your followers click on it, you will earn money.
RevTwt.com
RevTwt.com formerly TwtAd.com allows you to monetize your tweets. Twitter users
who want to make use of it must first register at RevTwt.com with all their Twitter
details and PayPal id. Once they have done this, they are free to choose the ads to
post as tweets. These tweets will contain the advertiser’s link. Whenever your
followers or anybody else clicks on it, you will get paid.
Once again, choose your ads with care. They should look as if you are tweeting. The
Twitter community will block you or report you for spamming if they suspect that you
are forcing ads on them.
Here are some step-by-step instructions to use your RevTwt.com account.
1. Get a genuine Twitter account; many people sign up for RevTwt without a Twitter
account.
2. Sign up at RevTwt by providing your Twitter details and PayPal address.
46
© SuccessCurrency.com www.SuccessCurrency.com
3. Log into RevTwt.com and click on the "Post Ads" tab to start posting ads. Choose
ads that look as if you are tweeting. Once you select an appropriate ad, post it as a
tweet. Whenever someone clicks on it, you will get paid. Payout is $20.
A Word of Warning
You may post as many ads as you like on Twitter in order to make money; but take
care that you don’t spam. Twitter users hate spammers. Posting ads all day and
earning money from clicks sounds like a great idea; but in the long run, you might
lose your valuable followers. So, tweet a lot about your life, your careers, your
vacation, your coffee breaks, and so on. Insert an ad or two in the midst of these
tweets. Then, nobody will accuse you of spamming.

4 Great Ways to Build Your Business
on Twitter
Twitter is a great place to build your business and promote your products as long as
you don’t overdo it and annoy other Twitter users. While you promote your business,
you must remember that Twitter is a social networking site, where aggressive
marketing is simply not appreciated. Here are 4 tips to help you build your business
on Twitter.
1. Tweet About Your Business
Building your business on Twitter is ridiculously easy. For example, if you are
working on a new product at present, all you have to do is tweet about it. You could
just tweet, "I am busy writing an eBook at present." Other Tweeps are sure to get
interested in your work. Some of them might even purchase it once it is done.
However, be careful when you play this game. Talking about your work or career is
quite normal, but don’t carry it to the extreme. You could also include your website
address in your bio, and see that the website has ample details about your work.
This will give you a better chance of attracting more clients.
2. Tweet about Your Product
Are you launching a new product? Tweet about it once per day or more if required. In
your tweet, include information about how people would benefit by this product. For
example, if you have created some website templates, you could tweet: "Working on
creating website templates to help newbies create professional-looking pages." You

could also tweet about how your product is doing: "I am getting positive feedback
from customers who purchased my templates." Tweeps are sure to get interested in
your product.
Tweet about your product at different times because Tweeps check their accounts at
different times. However, don't just tweet about your products. Insert plenty of social
tweets in between your business tweets and make sure you respond to the tweets of
other Twitter users. If you fail to do this, other Twitter users will consider you to be a
spammer.
3. Tweet about Your Blog Posts
Publish posts related to your product or business on your blog and tweet the links to
your followers along with a short description of the blog post. The content should
really be of some use to your followers.
Here is a tweet for an example: "How to Build a Website in 10 Easy Steps" followed
by the link. If people find the information you have offered to be useful, they are sure
to get interested in your product too.
4. Tweet Your Affiliate Links
Twitter can help you get fatter affiliate commission checks. First, collect all your
affiliate links in one place. You can now tweet these links to Twitter users who are
really looking for the information. In this way, you can sell your clickbank products or
get referrals to online program.
How do you find Twitter users who might really be interested in your referral links?
Type a keyword related to a product you are attempting to sell on Twitter Search. For
example, you want to sell an eBook on how to find a job. Simply type the keywords
"find a job" on Twitter Search and it will turn up all the tweets of Twitter users who

are busy hunting for jobs. You can now respond to these tweets with information
about the product you are selling or with referral links to employment companies that
you are working for. You are not spamming anyone here. You are simply providing
information to people who are looking for precisely that information! You are just
trying to be of some help by giving information of value. The links that you have
posted might be the very thing the Twitter user is looking for. If they have already
registered at the site you have suggested, they will either inform you or ignore you.
You can then suggest another company or product. This method will help you
become a roaring success at affiliate marketing.
Besides, some of these people might also become your followers just because you
have given them some valuable information and been of some use to them. You will
gain their trust. And once you have gained their trust and goodwill, you can easily
sell more products to them or refer them to some more programs.

2 Golden Rules for Affiliate Marketers
Affiliate marketers should keep the following 2 golden rules in mind while promoting
their products.
Recommend Known Products Only
Don’t ever make the mistake of recommending products that you have never used
yourself. At least, they should be products created by a company or individual whom
you trust. If you recommend sub-standard products that will not be of any use to the
customer who has purchased them, you are going to lose your reputation. Your
customers will no longer trust you. What’s worse, they will stop buying from you. So,
never promote products about which you know nothing.
Promote Products of Value Only
Don’t promote useless products. In other words, promote products that will really be
of value to your followers. If you promote useless products, your followers will stop
taking your seriously. They will trust you no more.
The best thing that can ever happen to you as an affiliate marketer is getting positive
feedback from a Tweep who found your products really useful. In such a case, you
have not only earned a few bucks, but also a customer’s trust and goodwill. This
customer won’t mind purchasing from you again. So, making a smart selection of
products to promote and sell on Twitter is of great importance.
